YOU DESERVE A Life THAT FEELS GOOD.

MODERN therapy in New York,NY

let’s be honest:

Life doesn’t look the way you expected it to.

Your expectations of what your journey would look like through adulthood look nothing like your reality. You’re smart; you’re motivated and professional. You look the part and present yourself well, but you are secretly struggling. Your problems are not apparent to others, and you may not fully understand them yourself. You have difficulty accepting yourself, being present in your life, and finding happiness. You have always enjoyed working hard, but it seems lately that you are overwhelmed and just trying to survive. Your relationships are stale, and you feel disconnected. You’ve been wondering why your intimate relationships, or the lack thereof, are so damn hard. You realize that something has to change because your life looks nothing like you had expected. No matter what has brought you here, we understand how overwhelmed and stuck you feel. If you've been secretly struggling or feel like you've become a broken record with your friends, it might be time to start exploring what's going on with someone neutral and ready to listen.

We work with couples and individuals motivated to heal and transform their lives. At Modern Therapy NY, we believe that our happiness is centered around relationships…with ourselves and others. Through a trauma-focused lens, using talk therapy, EMDR, and other modalities, I help high-functioning, successful adults heal the wounds of a difficult childhood, ongoing relational issues, or traumatic events.

When we heal ourselves, we help heal the relationships surrounding us.

When we improve our emotional and mental well-being, we become better equipped to handle the challenges and difficulties that arise in our relationships. By healing ourselves, we become more self-aware, empathetic, compassionate, and understanding, leading to healthier and more fulfilling relationships with the people around us.

When we have a strong sense of self and are comfortable in our skin, we are less likely to react to conflicts or stressors negatively. Overall, healing oneself can lead to a ripple effect that benefits us and our relationships with others.

maybe you’re…

Struggling to find a fulfilling romantic relationship

If you're struggling to find a fulfilling romantic relationship, it can be helpful to start by examining your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with a therapist. This can involve exploring your past experiences, understanding what you are looking for in a partner, and considering any patterns or beliefs that may be holding you back from finding a relationship that is genuinely fulfilling.

You feel like your past is still following you around today.

Our past experiences can sometimes have a lingering impact on us, even long after they've happened. This can take many forms, such as memories, regrets, shame, or unresolved feelings and emotions.

If the past is still affecting you in the present, it can be helpful to seek support from a therapist to help you work through your feelings. EMDR is a very effective therapy that gives us the power to work through these feelings and to heal from past experiences.

Wondering if you're in the right relationship

We can help you decide if you're in the right relationship for you. We offer a neutral, non-judgmental space for you to reflect on your relationship and your feelings. We can also help you work through personal issues impacting your relationships, such as anxiety, family patterns, or past traumas. Choosing a therapist, you feel comfortable with and who has experience working with couples or relationship issues is essential.

I’M Kirsten.

You don’t have to keep settling in your life or your relationships.

I offer a space for kind and gentle self-exploration for couples seeking to improve their relationships. I treat individuals experiencing anxiety, relationship issues, sexual concerns, trauma, grief, and anger. I believe that we can heal through healthy relationships.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a type of therapy that is used to help people overcome the effects of traumatic or stressful experiences. It's based on the idea that traumatic events can become "stuck" in the brain, causing feelings of distress or anxiety that persist long after the event has passed.

EMDR therapy help people process these experiences and reduce the emotional impact that it has on their daily lives.
